How do I use a permanent pressure extinguisher?

To find out how to use an extinguisher in general, see our dedicated article.
Continuous-pressure extinguishers do, however, have their own special features.
What is a permanent pressure extinguisher?
The unit is constantly under pressure. The CO2 is contained directly in the body of the device, mixed with the additive or powder. At the moment of use, the mixture is diffused over the base of the flames.
Which extinguisher to hit?
A permanent-pressure extinguisher does not need to be impacted, as auxiliary-pressure extinguishers are equipped with CO2 cartridges. Permanent pressure extinguishers are fitted with a pressure gauge to check the internal pressure at all times.
CO2 extinguishers: permanent or auxiliary pressure?
CO2 extinguishers are special in that CO2 is used as both propellant and extinguishing agent. CO2 extinguishers have the particularity of causing extreme cold, as the CO2 emerges in the form of dry ice. For the safety of the user, care must be taken not to touch the body of the device during use. Although CO2 extinguishers are similar to permanent pressure extinguishers, they do not have a pressure gauge.
Handling and use :
Follow the P.A.S.S. Method
- For(Pull): Pull the safety pin located near the handle. This pin prevents the extinguisher from being accidentally activated.
- Address(Aim): Aim for the base of the fire. Aiming at the source of the fire, not the flames, is crucial to effectively extinguishing it.
- Squeeze: Press the handle to release the extinguishing agent. Maintain constant pressure to ensure continuous flow.
- Sweep: Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire until it is extinguished. Keep moving forward cautiously if necessary, while maintaining the sweep.
