How do I use an auxiliary pressure extinguisher?

To find out how to use an extinguisher in general, see our dedicated article.
Auxiliary pressure extinguishers do, however, have their own special features.
What gas is contained in the cartridge of an auxiliary pressure extinguisher?
The device is not constantly pressurized. The CO2 is contained in a cartridge inside the body. At the moment of use, the cartridge must be percussed to release the CO2, which will mix with the water and the additive, or powder, to be diffused on the flame base.
How do I pressurize an auxiliary pressure extinguisher?
To pressurize the extinguisher, strike the cartridge. On Eurofeu extinguishers, you need to pull the handle downwards, after pulling the pin out of the extinguisher head. You'll hear a noise indicating that the cartridge has been pierced and the extinguisher pressurized.
Handling and use :
Follow the P.A.S.S. Method
- For(Pull): Pull the safety pin located near the handle. This pin prevents the extinguisher from being accidentally activated.
- Address(Aim): Aim for the base of the fire. Aiming at the source of the fire, not the flames, is crucial to effectively extinguishing it.
- Squeeze: Press the handle (after the pressurization step) to release the extinguishing agent. Maintain constant pressure to ensure continuous flow.
- Sweep: Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire until it is extinguished. Keep moving forward cautiously if necessary, while maintaining the sweep.
