How do I recycle an extinguisher?

Fire extinguishers are not conventional household waste, and require special disposal once they have been taken out of service. To ensure that they can be recycled, the appliance must be identified, and the appropriate recycling method or service provider selected.
Where can I dispose of my old fire extinguishers near my home?
Small fire extinguishers
The small fire extinguishers concerned are all pressurized fire extinguishers with a nominal load of 2 L or 2 kg or less: powder, foam and water extinguishers, fixed or portable.
If your extinguisher is empty or has passed its expiration date, you can :
- return it to certain DIY stores, car repair shops or hardware stores, which will take back your used extinguisher when you buy a new one;
- drop it off at your local waste collection center, if your local authority accepts it.
The extinguishers concerned are those with a charge of less than or equal to 2kg / 2l, whether they are powder, foam or water extinguishers, and whether they are fixed or portable.
Please note: CO2 appliances, fire extinguishers that are not pressure-resistant (smoke extinguishers, fire blankets) and fire-extinguishing aerosols are excluded from collection.
Portable extinguishers
As a company, you have a legal obligation to dispose of your waste in accordance with regulations, by calling in a company to collect and recycle it. Your Eurofeu branch can collect your obsolete or out-of-use extinguishers.
