How to light an extinguisher

Activate Extinguisher
To activate an extinguisher, follow the P.A.S.S. method:
- For(Pull): Pull the safety pin. This pin prevents the extinguisher from being accidentally activated.
- Address(Aim): Aim for the base of the fire. Aiming at the source of the fire, not the flames, is crucial to effectively extinguishing it.
- Squeeze: Press the handle to impact the extinguisher (on auxiliary pressure) and release the extinguishing agent. Maintain constant pressure to ensure continuous flow.
- Sweep: Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire until it is extinguished. Keep moving forward cautiously if necessary, while maintaining the sweep.
Advice and precautions
- Do not breathe fumes: Avoid breathing fire fumes, as they may be toxic.
- Ventilation: Use the extinguisher in a well-ventilated area to avoid the accumulation of gas or powder in the air.
- Vertical position: Always keep the extinguisher in a vertical position to ensure a constant flow of extinguishing agent.
- Monitoring the area: Even after the fire is apparently out, keep an eye on the area to prevent any recurrence.
After use
Continuous Monitoring
Make sure the fire is completely extinguished and unlikely to reignite.
Informing the authorities
Even if the fire seems to be under control, call the fire department to report the incident so they can check that all danger has been averted.
Reloading and replacement
After use, have the extinguisher recharged or replaced immediately to be ready for any future incident.
Using an extinguisher correctly is crucial to fire safety. By following these steps and tips, you can ensure a quick and effective response to extinguish the fire. Remember to always remain calm and follow the P.A.S.S. method to maximize your chances of success.
